About the Role
You’ll be the person everyone relies on to keep the platform fast, reliable and scalable:
Own AWS infrastructure end-to-end using Terraform: networking, security, sane defaults, automated rollbacks.
Design and run high-throughput data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, training data prep and reporting.
Work closely with AI/ML engineers to ship model inference and evaluation into production – version, deploy and monitor LLM and matching services.
Take responsibility for PostgreSQL performance and reliability (schemas, indexing, connection pooling; pgvector/embeddings is a plus.
Set up and enforce CI/CD and environment hygiene so the team can ship quickly without breaking prod.
Build full-stack observability across services and data jobs: logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, SLOs and incident response.
Drive cost-aware architecture – balancing latency, reliability and scale across web, mobile and agentic systems.
You’re not a ticket-taker; you’re designing the “golden paths” for services, data and model delivery.
Requirements
Location: San Francisco – on-site, 5 days a weekCompensation: Competitive salary + meaningful equityRole type: Infrastructure Engineer / Platform Engineer
What we’re looking for
4+ years in Infrastructure / Platform / SRE or Data Infra, with real production ownership (uptime, performance, security).
Strong AWS + Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform or equivalent).
Solid background with containers and orchestration (Kubernetes and/or ECS) and modern CI/CD.
Proficient in Python or TypeScript for internal tools/services.
Confident running PostgreSQL at scale (performance, tuning, resilience); pgvector/ML-adjacent workloads a bonus.
Strong observability and on-call instincts: metrics, tracing, alerting, incident management.
Experience building and operating data pipelines (batch and/or streaming).
Able to work on-site in San Francisco, 5 days/week and already authorised to work in the US (no future sponsorship).
This is aimed at a founding-calibre infra/platform engineer who wants both architectural say and hands-on work.
Why this role?
Founding impact: You’re the infra/platform person – you set standards, patterns and tooling from scratch.
Hard, interesting problems: High-volume data, real-time AI voice interactions, and reliability for consumer-grade experiences.
Tight feedback loop: Work side-by-side with product, backend and ML teams; infra decisions show up quickly in user outcomes.
Upside: Competitive salary + meaningful equity in a young, fast-moving AI company.
About the Company
We’re partnered with a VC-backed AI voice & social startup building a new kind of matching and conversation experience. Think: real-time voice AI, intelligent matching, and social features rather than another swipe app.
They’re hiring a founding Infrastructure / Platform Engineer to own everything from AWS foundations and data pipelines to CI/CD and observability. This is a high-impact, hands-on role – you’re building the platform the whole product runs on.
